$ 20 Per Gallon
The author presents a thought experiment set in the not to distant future where the price of gas increases not only to where we have seen it before but to all new highs ( hence the title $20 per gallon). The author suggests interesting relationships between obesity ( and other things ) and the price of gasoline.
Instead of playing on ours fears Mr Stiener presents a world where the rising price of fuel has forced us to move to a cleaner environment simply by using fewer gallons of fossil fuel as we drive fewer miles in gas guzzling vehicles. Air travel has been largely replaced by cross country bullet trains that wisk us from city to city. This future world is characterised by alternative
fuels such as wind, solar and geothermal energy which have now become the more cost effective solutions.
An interesting read for anyone interested in what might be.
