OMV in partnership with Linde AG and Daimler AG recently opened Baden-Württemberg’s first publicly accessible hydrogen filling station on the site of the OMV service station at Stuttgart Airport. The project is centered on the use of hydrogen as an environment-friendly energy medium. Hydrogen filling stations represent an important step toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels in the long term and coming a step closer to emission-free sustainable mobility. The innovative hydrogen filling station will serve fuel cell vehicles of the latest generation, such as the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL, with 700-bar high-pressure technology. Small-series production of this vehicle is to commence later this year in Germany.

The vehicle named the “RiverSimple” is a 2 seater vehicle powered by a 6 kwatt hydrogen fuel cell. The car which is only seen in the black ( wasn’t this Henry Ford’s original strategy until hiscompetition thought of colors?) is designed to achieve 50 mph and a range of 240 miles. Almost as forward thinking as this new vehicle is the companies decision to pay for fuel for the 3 year duration of the lease. Continue reading RiverSimple Hydrogen Fuelcell Vehicle. Never pay for Fuel Thanks to a Swiss communications company the entire world will be able to follow all the latest developments of the one of the worlds coolest aerospace projects since Orville and Wilbur Wright. It is not the launch of a space shuttle or another celebrity in space or news of a new stealth technology long range bomber but the flight of a solar airplane. Swisscom will become the official National telecom partner of Solar Impulse and develop a special communications solution for Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg’s completely solar-powered aircraft. Among other things, Swisscom will be responsible for ensuring that the project team remains in constant contact with the pilot. And thanks to innovative mobile services, the Swiss population will share in the excitement when the plane flies around the world from 2012. According to the company Swisscom will also put its technological expertise to the test in the area of convergence products and new media. In its role as official telecommunications partner, Swisscom will provide innovative mobile services so that all interested parties can share the excitement and experience the Solar Impulse venture up close from the very beginning. Swisscom will broadcast a live press conference on 26 June 2009 at www.bluewin.ch which will feature the unveiling of the new solar airplane and in 2010, when the plane makes its first fuel-free daytime-night-time flight over Switzerland, Swisscom will also be at hand. NYK has released an initial exploratory design for its NYK Super Eco Ship 2030, an energy-efficient ship expected to emit far fewer CO2 emissions than current vessels. The design was created by MTI, a wholly owned NYK subsidiary charged with making use of advances in technology, along with Garroni Progetti s.r.l, an Italian designer of ships, and Elomatic Marine, a Finnish marine-technology consultant.
Smith Electric Vehicles, the leading manufacturer of commercial electric vehicles, recently announced an electric vehicle development collaboration with Ford Motor Company. Smith Electric Vehicles, a trading division of The Tanfield Group Plc, will work with Ford to introduce a battery-electric light van, the first vehicle in the company’s broad electrification strategy for the North American market which was announced at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. This vehicle will be based on the European-designed Ford Transit Connect which goes on sale in North America this year. The vehicle, which Smith will assemble in North America, will have a range of up to 100 miles on a full charge, without compromising the Transit Connect’s superior driving experience. It will operate very similarly to a conventional light van, but with smoother acceleration, less noise and zero emissions. The vehicle will be fully branded as a Ford product and will go on sale through selected Ford dealerships in North America in 2010.
